Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt

We undoubtedly live in perilous times, the news media is constantly sending forth a barrage of negative information about the world we live in with threats of environmental calamity, wars, the constant threat of terrorism and impending economic doom, the idea of a collapsing world is very much a reality for many. There are people now protesting in the streets demanding change and the age old struggle of class warfare is once again heating up. All of these messages can stir up many negative emotions, stress and above all breed fear, uncertainty and doubt.

Should we be surprised by what we see in the news media and walking about the streets? The simple answer is no. When asked by the disciples of the signs of His coming Jesus answered:

And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled:
for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there
shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
-Matthew 24: 6-7

Our Savior warned us of these events some two thousand years ago and to the saved they should be an alert that we need to be more diligent in our efforts to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. To the unsaved the daily news is a source of constant stress because of the threat imposed upon their most basic needs and survival. The sad reality is that many saved people are reacting to world events just like the unsaved by allowing fear, uncertainty and doubt to rule over their lives and render them useless to spread the gospel as Christ commanded us to do.

Step back and ask yourself am I living in fear? Do I doubt what the Lord said or am I uncertain about His return? If you answer yes to either of these questions you need to ask for forgiveness, pray for assurance and remember what our Savior said:

But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore:
ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Also I say unto you, Whosoever confess me before men, him shall the Son
of man also confess before the angels of God.
-Luke 12: 7-8

Let us not allow the events of this world to get in the way of what our Lord would have us do. Spread His gospel and lay up treasures in Heaven that will not perish or rust with time but will be around for eternity. If you are not saved then I beg of you to accept Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior today. Do not wait, the clock is ticking. Accept Christ and allow Him to alleviate the burdens of this world. Do not live with fear, uncertainty and doubt but rather live with hope, certainty and joy knowing that Jesus Christ is returning and that He truly does love you.
